Holy MacMandelbrot, Batman!

W
e've been using a Mandelbrot generator as a sample application for quite a while now; those of you who have seen us at a tradeshow may have seen something like this before:

Or have you? Look closer!

Our new intern Robert started today, and he brought his Intel based MacBook. He booted to XP using Boot Camp, installed .NET, added himself to our network and installed a Digipede Agent. Next thing you know, he was adding CPU power to our grid!

Notes:
  • The MacBook (with the Intel Duo Core) is screaming fast.
  • Robert only has 512 MB of RAM; he says that's plenty to run XP quickly, but OS X really lags. Now who's got the bloated OS?
  • My PowerBook at home died recently; maybe I'll have to think about the MacBook...

    1. good ole robert adding some needed power to your starving grid, eh? bloated OS? well depends on what you want your OS to do . . . and it's core capabilities. Mac OS X is much more fun, inspires one to be creative and beckons you to play -- not work. Sure my British import car has more cylinders and requires a bit more octane than my friend's 4 cyl Toyota; but boy my car is more fun, runs circles around and feels much safer than that Toyota. Is that ole British car bloated. Nah. Just engineered and built to last.... (this is of course post Lucas-electronics)

Robert is a bright and passionate kid... he'll learn a lot and bring a great viewpoint to your team...

Can't wait to read more on what's goin' on up there...

    2. Don't worry, worldrider, that was a friendly jab at the OS.

As my other co-worker Robert pointed out, it's not fair to judge OS X against XP--judging it against Vista would be much more appropriate (and Vista would undoubtedly fair worse than XP).

      I'm a fan of OS X.

And I thought it was really, really cool to see the Mac on our grid.
